Recorder fingering charts for people with visual impairments
FEHR Blockflötenbau is one of the first companies to offer recorder fingering charts for screen readers.
This makes it easier for people with visual impairments to look up the fingering options offered on their instrument.
The fingerings are indicated according to a system that was developed at the suggestion of and in cooperation with those affected.
The fingering system
The system is structured as follows:
- The finger holes are numbered from the top.
- Holes that are played are indicated.
- 0 indicates a completely closed thumb hole, 0 with a semicolon indicates a half-gripped thumb hole.
- The numbers 1 to 5 indicate the single holes on the front.
- The double holes are indicated with a semicolon (following the thumb hole).
- UL indicates the lower sound hole at the foot end.
Example
For a soprano: e in the second octave the noteted fingering would be:
0; 1 2 3 4 5 6
